With 16 tracks, 16 steps, and 4 phrases, it features both real-time and step input, ratcheting, variable gate and sequence lengths, multiple playback modes, and paraphonic operation. Possibly the Pro 3’s most powerful performance tool is its sequencer. An additional Drive control provides still more punch when you really want to get down and dirty. Filter 3 is a classic 2-pole, state-variable design based on the OB-6 filter that can be continuously varied between low-pass, notch, and high-pass operation, with an optional band-pass mode. Filter 2 is a classic transistor ladder filter with optional resonance compensation to preserve its low-end punch. Filter 1 is a 4-pole low-pass design based on the Prophet-6 filter. Three Filters Based on Vintage DesignsĪt the heart of the Pro 3’s ballsy sound are its vintage-style filters. This significantly expands the sound palette of the Pro 3. Sequential’s web-based utility, Wavetable Generator, allows you to convert up to 16 single-cycle waves into a Pro 3-compatible wavetable and load it into any of the 32 user wavetable slots on the synth. Tuned feedback with grunge, and analog distortion deliver industrial-grade nastiness on demand. With 32 tables of 16 waves each and wave morphing, tonal possibilities are immense. Its two voltage controlled oscillators provide warmth and presence while its third wavetable oscillator provides digital edge and grit. The Pro 3 is a hybrid of solid, old-school analog synthesis paired with versatile digital technology. Throw in dual digital effects and four control voltage ins and outs, and you’ve got a hugely powerful instrument that’s as exciting to program as it is to play. The Pro 3 boasts three oscillators, three vintage filters, three LFOs, four loopable envelopes, a massive 32-slot mod matrix, and a 16 x 16 x 4 sequencer. Enter the Pro 3, Sequential’s 2-VCO + wavetable mono/paraphonic synth - a new benchmark for raw sonic power and unrivalled versatility. So it was only natural that we build on their strengths with an even more worthy successor. Completing the sonic evolution of the Subsequent 37 is a re-tuned Multidrive circuit that extends well beyond the grit and growl of the original Sub 37.The Sequential Pro 1 and Pro 2 mono synths achieved nearly legendary status in their time. Leveraging the mixer’s newfound flexibility, the gain-staging of the Ladder filter has been reshaped to boost harmonic saturation and analogue compression, resulting in an overall richer low end, claim Moog. This provides access to a new range of classic clean tones in both mono and duo performance modes. The Subsequent 37 is a (two-note) paraphonic analogue synthesizer with double the mixer headroom of the Sub 37. Using an Audio Precision analyzer and an oscilloscope, Cyril Lance compares the audio outputs of both the original Sub 37 and Subsequent 37. To illuminate the enhanced sonic vocabulary of the new Subsequent 37, Moog’s Chief Engineer, Cyril Lance, is joined by Snarky Puppy’s Cory Henry in the Moog Sound Lab Moog Sound Lab. Implementing the upgraded sonic modifications and functional improvements found in the limited-edition Subsequent 37 CV (minus the aluminum aesthetic and CV outputs), the new Subsequent 37 will become the standard production model moving forward. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The award-winning Sub 37 Paraphonic Analog Synthesizer has been discontinued from production to make way for Moog Music’s new standard: the Subsequent 37.
